25 Companies, 31 Teams, 155 shooters and roughly 16,737 shots fired! It was an epic day, with plenty of fun to go around.
CM Student Fall Welcome
“Make your Mark” was the opening networking activity for this year’s SCMEF Fall Welcome held on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Harper Alumni Center at Sac State. This event provides a meet and greet opportunity for the Sac State Construction Management program students and SCMEF Board Members, University Administration and CM Program Alumni.
Sac State President Robert Nelsen, Provost Ching-Hua Wang, ECS College Dean Lorenzo Smith, and CM Department Chair Mikael Anderson were on-hand to encourage the students and to reinforce their opportunities in this program which is heavily supported by industry.
A team from Teichert, represented by Sac State Alumni Katie Tonello, CM grad Adam Bettencourt and current CM student Linda Tran were in the ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT this year providing insights with a presentation on the Sacramento Waste-Water Treatment Plant and Oroville Dam.
Henry Meier, SCMEF Student Activities Chair talked about the Reno competition, which this year experienced the highest number of student applicants (115) who were all assigned to (9) teams at the coach draft & student kick-off meeting on Monday, September 18th. Finally, Steven Tankersley, President of the Sac State CM Alumni Chapter was on-hand to represent program alumni and talk about the importance of networking and supporting each other along their career pathways.
It was another successful year for a longstanding SCMEF tradition!
SCMEF Spring Scholarships
SCMEF presented the 2018 CM Scholarship awards to 10 students this year at the Inaugural Richard A. Nickles Memorial Scholarship & Awards Reception held on May 8th at the Harper Alumni Center at Sacramento State.
The opening reception concluded with the premier of the 2018 Reno Competition Video and was followed by opening remarks from: President Dr. Robert Nelsen, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Ching-Hua Wang, and ECS College Dean, Dr. Lorenzo Smith.
This year’s event served as a tribute to Professor Richard A. Nickles (Dick), who in 1975 joined the civil engineering faculty at Sac State where he developed and championed the school’s construction management program. Dick’s daughter, Julia was the guest speaker and shared wonderful memories and pictures honoring Dick’s life over the years and his contribution to both the construction industry and the college.
Henry Meier, SCMEF’s Chair of student activities acknowledged the students and coaches who participated in this year’s Reno Competition in February bringing home 2- 1st Place wins for the Electrical and Concrete Teams, 1 – 2nd place for the Design Build Team and 1 – 3rd Place for the Mixed Use Team.
Finally, Mike Penney, SCMEF’s Scholarship Committee Chair presented scholarships totaling $10,000.
